We decided it would be best to record the bulk of the remaining instrumentation before recording the vocals. There is quite a variety of the number of instruments and instrument types between songs.

I originally envisioned a sort of predetermined "band" with a fixed set of instruments. It became evident that some of the songs were going to require more than this. A few songs are what I call "big" songs. They required a full orchestral sound. For these, I recorded brass sections, lots of strings, timpani, and so on, to achieve the orchestra effect.

Other selections only required a "praise band" sound, so I recorded fewer instrumental tracks and used "small group" instrumentation. The Cakewalk software made it extremely easy to arrange and record all the instrumentation.

Jeremy and I would meet periodically to listen to the arrangements as I worked until, finally, we were ready to record our first vocal tracks.
